Those of you who know me well, understand that a red-carpet movie premiere is considerably outside my normal flannel-shirt-and-jeans-Pacific-NW world.
The red carpet, more of a symbolic name because this carpet was green, is a photo and interview line. Lots of flashes and microphones and questions, before we entered into the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) theater room to watch this amazing film, The Shack movie.
After sniffling our way through the film and clapping at each part of the end credits, we were escorted to the after party at a nearby restaurant. Here introductions and good conversations were abundant. It was an evening of celebration, surreal and fun and interesting.
There is a whisper of a longing behind all of this; to be part of something created together, embedded with the unique and essential crafting and contribution of each person. We know that our participation, recognized or not, will be inside this ripple as it moves into the world.
It takes many people to bring an idea or vision into reality and every addition becomes a shared piece of common ground. I think of the ‘common’ servants who brought the water, jar by jar, and filled up huge containers, and then stood speechless as their participation miraculously turned to wine at a wedding so long ago. That story became part of their legacy, woven into the tapestry of their lives. They always knew their contribution, though simple, was essential.
There is a message standing gently behind the array of photographers and questions, just beyond the visible lights and laughter. That message is that each of us is connecting from diverse journeys in this moment and if we have ears to hear, we know we matter. And if in this moment that is true, perhaps it has always been and always will be.
Thank you Lionsgate. Thank you Gil and Lani Netter and Stuart Hazeldine. Thank you Motive Entertainment and D3 Entertainment. Thank you cast and crew. Thank you readers and listeners and now watchers. This is one surreal experience.
Also, today is the nation wide premiere event for the movie. See if there are tickets available in your city here! If not, get to the theater tomorrow.
